Pop Up Museum
The Valentines Museum is a playful exploration of the ups-and-downs of modern romance, the joy of connection, and the wonder of finding love within yourself. Surprises around every corner! And of course, a sickening amount of pink.
OVERVIEW:
This was my very own daydream turned reality. Making it real included:
Concepting all of the exhibits, different each year. This year’s included 16 Valentiney exhibits including:
The “Funhouse of Toxic Relationships” - a circus-like maze bringing toxic traits to life as interactive obstacles.
“The Birds and The Bees” - an unsuspecting little room poking fun at the awkwardness of talking about sex.
A blacklight hopscotch stethoscope room for “Listening to Your Heart.”
“You’re a Knockout” - What would love be without hate? This was punching bag you can label with whatever it is you need to take out some anger on.
Sourcing supplies on a budget and getting creative with materials
Coordinating volunteers and temp employees for construction, marketing, and staffing
Constructing the museum: Building walls, hanging signage, applying vinyl, you name it!
Copywriting all exhibits and marketing pieces with “the voice of the museum”
HIGHLIGHTS:
The first year we opened, a visitor made a little tiktok that went viral!
We were featured in 5 different news outlets
Most importantly, my life mission was furthered: people’s idea of Valentine’s Day was expanded into something fun and they believed that love is something that applies to them regardless of relationship status.
SIDE NOTE: My favorite exhibit is “The Cuddle Puddle” - a pile of stuffed torsos you can dive into and snuggle with as long as you want.
